Scientific work

The University has about 40 topics of the scientific and research works, 4 of which receive funding from the State Budget. Every year 4-5 doctoral and 20-30 candidate’s theses are defended. For the successful fulfillment of scientific tasks there is scientific-research laboratory and a center of clinical research, which purpose is to improve the methodological support and increase the efficiency of scientific research in the field of fundamental and clinical medicine.

Scientific schools were formed, the study of which is based on the solution of a number of medical problems, in particular – diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases of the cardiovascular system, malignant tumors, tuberculosis, endocrine and immune systems, digestive organs, respiratory organs of children and adults, research and approbation of new medicines.

BSMU is represented in the top ten of the best medical universities according to the rating of the IHE (Institution of Higher Education) of Ukraine according to the indicators of the international scientometric database SciVerseScopus.

In the rating of institutions with the highest inventive activity, the BSMU annually takes a noble place by the results of obtaining patents for inventions.

An integral system of preparation of scientific and pedagogical personnel of higher qualification was created due to doctoral studies postgraduate courses. There are active doctoral programs (9 specialties), more than 50 young scientists study in postgraduate studies every year (full-time and part-time forms of study) with 21 specialties.

The highest form of professional development of medical specialists in the corresponding specialty is clinical residency, where more than 30 doctors study. Implementation of scientific research and dissertation work involves cooperation of the University with other research institutions. In particular, BSMU cooperates with 43 domestic and 20 foreign medical and classical universities and institutions.

Scientific and pedagogical staff of the University systematically participates in exchange programs in foreign institutions.

BSMU is an authoritative educational medical center. Annually 7-10 scientific forums are held at the University, which are a part of the sectoral register of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine and to the plan of conducting scientific conferences and seminars of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. BSMU is known to be the organizer of All-Ukrainian and international scientific-practical conferences, plenums, symposia and congresses, active participants of which are leading domestic and foreign experts in various branches of medicine. The results of the research conducted on the base of the BSMU are highlighted by the use of the web conferencing service WebClass of the scientific and educational telecommunication network “URAN”.

Ukrainian and foreign scholars are able to represent their scientific achievements in the specialized magazines of the University: “Bukovinian Medical Announcer”, “Clinical Anatomy and Operative Surgery”, “Clinical and Experimental Pathology”, “Neonatology, Surgery and Perinatal Medicine”, “International Endocrinology Magazine”, “Current Issues in Social Sciences and History of Medicine”, “BIMCO JOURNAL Abstracts Book”.

The repository of the BSMU operates, supplied by full-text materials of the works of the teachers of the University constantly (the current database of scientific works – more than 13,000 electronic documents).

With the purpose of comprehensive assistance to science, research, inventive and creative activities of young scientists, ensuring a systematic approach in the training of scientific and pedagogical personnel of the highest qualification; preservation and development of intellectual potential there is the Council of Young Scientists and the Students’ Scientific Society at the Bukovinian State Medical University, involving over 1300 students in 58 scientific circles.

Traditionally (annually) the International Medical and Pharmaceutical Congress of Students and Young Scientists (BIMCO) is held at the University. More than 1,500 participants from 75 educational institutions and medical institutions from 32 countries: Ukraine, Albania, Bangladesh, Belarus, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Great Britain, Armenia, Greece, Georgia, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Iran, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Cyprus, China, Lithuania, Morocco, Mexico, Moldova, Pakistan, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Sudan, Tunisia, Uzbekistan, Philippines, Czech Republic – participate in the scientific forum. During the forum there are about 35 workshops of various areas of theoretical, practical medicine and pharmacy and 25 clinical master classes, workshops in Ukrainian and English.

International cooperation is a priority aspect in the development of the Student Scientific Society and the activities of the Council of Young Scientists of the University. In addition to active participation in various scientific events in Europe and in the world, students and young scientists take internships in leading clinics and universities of Germany, Austria, France, Israel, Italy, Poland, Romania, Slovenia, etc.

BIMCO forum supports international partnerships with the medical conferences of 20 universities in Europe and in the world: Austria, Bangladesh, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Greece, Great Britain, Indonesia, Ireland, Netherlands, Portugal, Poland, Serbia, Slovakia, Turkey
